«A. A. Kharlampiev Memorial» Sambo World Cup will be held in the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena from March 24 to March 25 2017. 300 athletes from 27 countries are going to take part in this event. Combat sambo competitions will be held among men and women in 9 weight groups. General sponsor of the «Kharlampiev Memorial» Sambo World Cup 2017 is Rosneft oil company.
«A. A. Kharlampiev Memorial» holds a special place among international sambo competitions. This event is dedicated to Anatoliy Arkad'yevich Kharlampiev, one of sambo founders. It was held for the first time in the «Druzhba» sports hall in October, 10~11 1980, the same year when Olympic Games were held in Moscow.

In 1983 this tournament was officially recognized as an «A» class competition, i.e. from that moment winners have been awarded with the «world-class athlete» title. From 2009 «Kharlampiev Memorial» has been considered the most important phase of the World Cup, in 2015 it became Sambo United World Cup.
In 2017 300 athletes from 27 countries will take part in the competitions.

They hail from Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Cyprus, Kirghizia, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Moldova, Russia, Romania, the USA, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, Czech Republic and Japan.

«Last year a Kharlampiev Memorial record was achieved. Before the number of participants used to vary between 150 and 170, but now the number of athletes, who want to compete for the World Cup, has almost doubled. I think in the future the popularity of this tournament will only», – noted Vasiliy Shestakov, FIAS president.
Competition for the medals is expected to be fierce. Last year`s tournament was won by the representatives of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Korea and Russia. If you want to recall the best moments of the finals, please watch this video:

By tradition, on the day of the Worlld Cup opening athletes and officials will lay flowers in front of the monument to Anatoliy Arkad'yevich Kharlampiev at the Novodevichy cemetery.
Unlike most of the previous tournaments, which were held in the «Druzhba» sports hall, this year the World Cup will be held in the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena. It is a universal sport venue with a length of 146 m, width of 100 m and height of 16 m, it also includes a 80 x 36 m sports field. They usually held volleyball, basketball, handball, wrestling, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, boxing and table tennis competitions in the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena, it also hosts performing arts presentations. In March 2017 Sambo World Cup will also be held there.

Sambo wrestlers from across the world hope that this tournament will become another important step towards recognizing sambo as an Olympic sport», — noted Sergey Vladimirovich Eliseev, president of the European and All-Russian Sambo Federations.
